EP Hagnau – Augst N02
Within the Hagnau – Augst motorway maintenance project, structural changes to the western tunnel portal (direction Basel/Germany) have to be carried out to enable longitudinal ventilation in both traffic directions. We are pleased that the plans for the extension of the western portal of Schweizerhalle tunnel have officially been approved. This allows us to finalise the detailed design and approach the contractor submission process according to our project schedule.

COMPARISON OF RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE EXPENDITURE SWITZERLAND – AUSTRIA
In 2016, the Swiss Federal Office of Transport (FOT) commissioned R+R, in cooperation with Besch und Partner, to compare railway infrastructure expenditures in Switzerland and Austria. The analysis takes different network characteristics, modes of operation and forms of financing into account.
The budget plan for financing operations and maintenance of the Swiss railway infrastructure 2017-2020 includes total funds of 13,2 billion Swiss francs, amounting to an average of 3,3 billion francs per year. At the same time, the Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology passed the ÖBB financing scheme 2016-2021 with a provision of 4,6 billion Euros for investment and maintenance. With the current exchange rate, this amounts to an average of 2,7 billion Swiss francs per year – less than in Switzerland.
In 2016, the FOT commissioned R+R, in partnership with Besch und Partner, to compare contents, delimitations and financing of railway infrastructure expenditures in Switzerland and Austria. The analysis covered data from 34 infrastructure operators in both countries.
The evaluation showed that the numbers were fundamentally comparable, but that differences in fi nancing strategy as well as maintenance and renewal strategy need to be considered.
