N11/60, N01/42 UPlaNS – ZH-Ost–Kloten Süd Interchange (ZOK), Completion of the Maintenance Concept (EK) Phase

Renato Käppeli / Stefan Isler

Over the past two years, we have supported the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) as project-owner support unit in the development of the maintenance concept (EK) for the ZOK project.

In addition to renewal work, smaller, targeted improvements to enhance traffic safety and traffic flow were also examined.

A particular challenge in this demanding project was the dense population and high traffic volume in the vicinity of Zurich Airport.

Approval for the EK has been granted, and we look forward to supporting the next project phases.

Queensland Rail (Australia)

QUEENSLAND RAIL ERTMS

The Australian railway company Queensland Rail plans to introduce the European Train Control System ETCS level 2 in partial stages. The planning process for the metropolitan railway network of Brisbane is already well advanced. R+R investigated various options for the Greater North Coast Line (GNCL), which predominantly serves freight traffic.

R+R validated the cost estimate for the Brisbane Inner City Line and provided inputs for the development of the cost model for the GNCL evaluation of options. The analysis was based on the definition of element classes, for which comparable costs from similar European projects were available. To get an appropriate reference for the Australian project options and their costs, we categorised these reference projects with regard to scope and volume, technical and functional requirements.
